Theatre on the Bay

Tuesday, 14 December 2021 to Saturday, 15 January 22

Renowned South African funnyman and award winning actor Alan Committee is will host a year-end comedy treat with an hilarious line-up of comedians. From the 10th of December to the 15th of January Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay will host its first ever comedy line-up extravaganza. Every night will be hosted by Alan Committee and include a young rising comedy act, an established Cape Town comedian and then a full stand up set from a starring headliner. Four acts in one night! The 90 minute show will showcase a variety of comic voices, perspectives and all big laughs. The headliners over the run include renowned South African Xhosa speaking Jewish comic Nik Rabinowitz, physical comedian Rob van Vuuren and the hilarious Schalk Bezuidenhout. Other comics include Dalin Oliver, Mel Jones, Gilli Apter, Yaseen Barnes.

Cape Town City Ballet presents a special Dickens treat for all ages of the timeless classic story of the triumph of joy, and the victory of the human spirit over greed. On Christmas Eve the elderly and unpleasant old man Ebenezer Scrooge is paid a visit by the Ghost of his dead business partner Joseph Marley, who tells him that three Spirits will call on Scrooge: The Spirit of Christmas Past, The Spirit of Christmas Present and the Spirit of Christmas Future. Marley tells Scrooge that unless he listens well and changes his miserly ways he will be forever condemned to be in chains of damnation. This is the story of that night.

Solo exhibition by Cu by Conrad Hicks 

Saturday, 11 December 2021 – early 2022

Opening at Cape Town’s Southern Guild gallery, Cu is the latest solo presentation by artist blacksmith Conrad Hicks, which contemplates the beauty found in his chosen medium: copper. Comprising a series of curvilinear sculptures mounted to the wall and standing on plinths, all made entirely of copper (whose chemical symbol gives the exhibition its name), this body of work sees Hicks push the expressive potential of the metal to its fullest.

Currently on at Johannesburg’s Stevenson gallery is INTAKA ENDALA EPHEZU’ KOMKHOMBE OMHLOPHE, a solo exhibition by Paulo Nazareth. Comprising sculpture, installation, drawing, photography and painting, using both naturally occurring and artificial materials, the exhibition spotlights the interplay of paradoxes between the immediate needs of life and the assumed requirements of a modernity governed by global white supremacy.

In Money & Men Celeste shares her funny lockdown challenges. She shares her hilarious views and poses some questions on what's currently going on with the Covid pandemic. The anxiety and depression issues we are facing as a society. She has a hilarious take on how she has accepted her shortcomings in finding love whilst celebrating her achievements and successes in life. The difficulties in the quest to find love in times of Corona as well as the joys of finding love in her forties. This piece is mostly about love, her introspection about life, health and wealth navigating it in the world that is finding it difficult to understand her as black woman.
