Gerard Ralphs is Senior Research Manager at the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators at South Africa's Human Sciences Research Council, which is responsible for national R&D and business innovation surveys. He defended his PhD, focussed on innovation measurement and the cultural and creative industries, at the University of Johannesburg in 2025. Gerard Ralphs has published research in the South African Journal of Science, South African Historical Journal, African Journal of Science, Technology, Innovation and Development, and Archaeologies: Journal of the World Archaeological Congress, and is co-editor of the 2018 anthology, Africa-Europe Research & Innovation Cooperation: Global Challenges, Bi-regional Responses (Palgrave MacMillan).
