Johanna Mavhungu is a PhD candidate at the Link Centre’s PhD programme in Interdisciplinary Digital Knowledge Economy Studies. She lectures in cultural policy and management at the Wits School of Arts, Wits University focussing on cultural entrepreneurship and arts marketing. She worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership (SPI) at Rhodes University, and on research projects with the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), the Open Society Foundation for South Africa (OSF-SA), the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) and the South African Department of Communications. She is passionate about filmmaking, cultural policy and entrepreneurship. Her research interests include new production and dissemination cultures in audio-visual media, as well as interdisciplinary indigenous knowledges that advance the arts, culture and communication in African contexts.
