Richard Haines

Richard Haines is Professor Emeritus, School of Economics, Development and Tourism, Nelson Mandela University. He led the founding team of the South African Cultural Observatory and was its first CEO from 2015-2018. Prof Haines has published on key aspects of the creative and cultural economy, and development and industrial policy more widely. He has also undertaken policy and evaluative research on creative economy programmes in the South African public and private sectors. Professor Haines’s additional fields of research expertise and interest include defence policy and defence industrial restructuring; deindustrialization; social capital; conflict dynamics; and select issues in tourism development, human resource management, and rural development.
