Smangaliso Siphesihle Ngwenya

Smangaliso Siphesihle Ngwenya is a dancer, performer, writer, director, choreographer, researcher, videographer and founder of Isifiso SakaGogo Performance Theatre. The essence of all his craft grows from the soil of dance and movement. His research interests are located in the Creative and Cultural Industries specifically the cultural value chain; learning, teaching and facilitation methodologies; Afrocentrism and community arts centres. After completing his Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies (Rhodes University) in 2016, he began his dance journey with Vuyani Dance Theatre (2017-2019) where he started as an aspirant and later progressed, trained and choreographed his path to Russia, Romania, Amsterdam and New York amidst others. In 2020 he completed his Masters of Arts in Cultural Policy and Management at the University of Witwatersrand and has recently endeavoured in continuing his academic journey towards locating and documenting South African Contemporary Dance practitioners and their epistemologies.
