Musical Sarafina comes to the State Theatre
The South African State Theatre (SAST) is pleased to announce the opening of Computicket bookings for one of the theatres most hailed musicals and sensational performances by Sarafina. SAST in association with Dr. Mbongeni Ngema and his company presents the well-known, multi international and award-winning Broadway production of Sarafina. This production will commence in 2017 on the 24th of February until the 3rd of March.
The Broadway, is a musical experience with Mbaqanga songs performed, merged with jazz, rhythm, blues and gospel. This proudly South African musical, was created in June 1986 and the first performance took place at The Market Theatre in Johannesburg in June 1987, with Leleti Khumalo, who played a major role as a school girl activist, Sarafina. The play portrays students involved in the 1976 Soweto Uprising against apartheid. “This year marks 30 years of Sarafina and 40 years of the Soweto Student Uprisings. The youth is being encouraged to come and be part of the revival of Sarafina”.
