Stay in a Treehouse & Get Paid to Write

BY 26.09.16

THE JAN Michalski Foundation is inviting applications for its inaugural writers’ residencies. The programme is based at the foot of Switzerland’s Jura Mountains and the selected writers will each live and work in newly constructed treehouses. Writers from around the world are invited to apply, and applications from new or emerging writers are welcome. Residencies can run from between two weeks and six months, and the length of stay should match the scope of the project.

As well as receiving accommodation in their own treehouse, residents will be paid a monthly allowance of 1200 Swiss Francs (approximately US$1200). Travel expenses will also be covered by the foundation and daily breakfasts and lunches are provided. Applications close on 30 September. The successful writers will be announced in December and the first residencies will begin in March 2017. READ MORE.

THE 1ST ANTARCTIC BIENNALE

The Antarctic Biennale is an international socio-cultural phenomenon that uses artistic, scientific, and philosophic methodologies to address shared spaces such as Antarctica, the Ocean, and Outer Space. The expedition on the research ships will culminate in these inspiring interdisciplinary activities. The ship will become a vehicle for the generation of art and ideas, a travelling platform for dialogue between artists, researchers, and thinkers.  The Antarctic Biennale does not start or end with the expedition on March 27, 2017. This is a biennale «in process», constantly building space for productive cooperation and creation of meaning.

THEME

Participants of the contest shall create a unique art object representing their own vision of Antarctica.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

Artists, who are 18-35 years old as of May 01, 2017 and work in any field of art (including installation, performance, video, and sound art).

REQUIREMENTS FOR ARTWORKS

Projects may be manifested on land, ice, water or onboard the biennale’s expedition vessel. Applications should take into consideration the following aspects: logistics, mobility, proportionality to space, ecological compatibility, artistic expressiveness, and conceptual acuity. The implementation complexity of the project is not a prerequisite.

Climate conditions in Antarctica are very severe, and the environment has to be protected, so we kindly ask you to learn rules and regulations of the Antarctic Treaty and other documents available on http://www.ats.aq/ as well as technical requirements for artworks specified in Terms and Conditions. Only those art projects that meet the mentioned requirements may be installed and demonstrated in Antarctica. READ MORE.
