Cultural, creative, sports industries contribute R271b to GDP

The South African Cultural Observatory’s latest mapping report shows the cultural, creative and sports industries now contribute 3.9% to the country’s GDP — valued at roughly R271.2 billion. The milestone signals a shift in how South Africa positions its “soft power” sectors — from social development tools to key drivers of economic growth.
