GQEBERHA, Eastern Cape. New Brighton Pictures’ first Non-Fiction title has been selected at Film Africa Festival hosted by the Royal African Society in London from 25 October to 03 November 2024. The 48 minute Documentary is titled PRIDE will have its world premiere on Sunday 27 October 2024 at the Ritzy Picturehouse London, scheduled to start at 8:10PM.
PRIDE is directed by AFDA Alumni Siyabulela Nozewu and the film highlights discrimination and stigmatization of the LGBTQI+ Community and the hate crimes they endured in Nelson Mandela Bay. Shot in 2021 at New Brighton and Central in Gqeberha as well as KwaNobuhle and Rosedale in Kariega.
PRIDE is one of the film projects funded by Eastern Cape Provincial Arts Culture Commission ECPACC through the Film Stimulus Fund which was sponsored by the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism DEDEAT announced by Premier Oscar Mabuyane in 2018 as an effort to stimulate and develop the local Film Sector.
The Documentary was also recently nominated at the inaugural Cultural and Creative Awards 2024 Hosted by former DSAC Minister Zizi Kodwa under the BEST Documentary category.
This is Eastern Cape based award winning Producer Luzuko Dilima’s second film to feature in a prominent International Film Festival in London UK. The award winning OF GOOD REPORT was the official competition of British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival 2013, the feature film was then licensed by BFI Player for a two year Streaming period. Thereafter it went to Showmax, SABC 1 and now its on NETFLIX.
