A CIRCUIT of nine domain workshops hosted by the South African Cultural Observatory (SACO) countrywide will culminate in two workshops in November in Johannesburg and Grahamstown.
The SACO has reached deep into South Africa and its arts, culture and heritage sectors to both introduce the research institute and its work; and to connect with the many creative people driving the country’s creative economy.
Since the launch of the workshop series, the SACO has visited Rustenburg, Polokwane, Nelspruit, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Durban leaving Johannesburg and Grahamstown as the last stops on the circumnavigation of South Africa.
“This countrywide tour has helped us connect with on-the-ground practitioners, universities, activists, members of the media, researchers, statisticians and others interested in the economic principles that underlie the sectors and what drives successes and challenges within the industry,” said Professor Richard Haines, SACO Chief Executive.
“We call on all those living in and around the Johannesburg area, as well as Gauteng more generally, to attend the workshop to get acquainted with the Cultural Observatory, what we do and how we can work more closely with all those operating and interested in the sector.”
The Johannesburg workshop will take place this week on Thursday, 3 November at the Wanderers Club from 9am. The Grahamstown workshop will be hosted later this month on 17 November at the National English Literature Museum.
A third statistics workshop is also planned for a niche audience and will also focus on the practical application of statistics for the creative and cultural industries over two days. It will also take place in Johannesburg this month.
