THIS literature review, The rise of coworking spaces: A literature review, by Alessandro Gandini addresses one of the most interesting phenomena to recently emerge in the past two decades: The rise and diffusion of coworking spaces. Co-working spaces are encouraging transformation in the workplace, allowing people to freelance and be independent workers - but ones with access to infrastructure, the internet, information and networks that can work as an "engine" for their profession and growth. This literature review aims to give a different angle of interpretation. Should we consider coworking phenomena as inevitably positive? Or should we be alerted to an emerging ‘coworking bubble’, as recently suggested by (Moriset, 2014), given that coworking is being increasingly used for branding, marketing and business purposes? Gandini, among other questions, asks how to interpret the coworking phenomenon in the landscape of the knowledge labour market, as it is connoted with the expectation of being the ‘new model of work’ in the context of the ‘collaborative and ‘sharing’ economy (Botsman and Rogers, 2011). This question is examained in the lieterature review by understanding the people using coworking spaces, their motivations, expected outcomes and perceived benefits.
