MEASURING & VALUING SOUTH AFRICA’S CULTURAL & CREATIVE ECONOMY

Dr Edward Dakora

Upon obtaining his Doctor of Technology (D Tech.) in Marketing from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Edward Dakora moved to Kimberley to implement the newly re-designed Diploma in Retail Business Management programme at the newly established Sol Plaatje University (SPU).  This move has led to the development of what is now known as the School of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) at SPU, which Edward headed (in acting capacity) until June 2017. He is currently a senior Lecturer at the EMS. While establishing this School, Edward taught courses in Retail and Business Management and served in the inaugural Council, Senate, Academic planning committee and Institutional Forum of the university.  He served on the Advisory board of the World Retail Congress to organise the Retail Congress Africa in 2015. Edward has previously taught Entrepreneurship, Research Methodology, Marketing and also coordinated research in the Department of Entrepreneurship at CPUT.  While pursuing postgraduate studies at CPUT, Edward worked on research projects with senior academics at HSRC focusing on South Africa’s corporate investing in the rest of Africa (especially the retail sector). His research interest includes: international Retail Management (with specific focus on Africa), Cross-border trade, Entrepreneurship and International Entrepreneurship, and African regional integration. He is a member of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), and a member of the Wholesale and Retail SETA’s (W&RSETA) Higher Education Group (and advisory body to the W&RSETA).
