Tarynne Swarts

World musician Tarynne Swarts currently based in Port Elizabeth is a final year PhD candidate in intercultural communication at the University of Granada in Spain and the Ceo/founder of the Imibala Arts festival (Cross colours/Cross cultures) in Nelson Mandela Bay South Africa. She received the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship to complete her master’s degree in Educational Sciences at the University of Leuven in Belgium in 2012 and completed her Bachelor degree in classical music at Nelson Mandela University.  She started her career as a Class music, Arts and culture and marimba band teacher at Woodridge College and Preparatory school Grade 1-7) from 2008-2011 before moving to Belgium to complete her masters. She is also a singer-songwriter and producer who recorded and released her debut album “Pachamama” meaning earth mother in Spanish in Granada, Spain in 2016. Her music is a bridge between different cultural and musical divides and is a fusion between Latin rhythms with a distinct African voice.
